In just a few months, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania will host the annual Anthrocon Convention, one of the largest furry conventions in the country. You’ll see furries wandering the streets of downtown Pittsburgh dressed as their favorite animal, wearing their costumes as naturally as they wear their own skin. Some will wear full furry regalia, while others may sport only a tail or ears. Some will dress in their favorite animal cartoon characters while others will anthropomorphize into their favorite animal familiar. Wolves, coyotes, cats, dogs, squirrels, and sport mascots alike will don their fur and wear it with pride.

Every year in July, the Anthrocon furry fandom convention is held in the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and Pittsburgh Westin Hotel, which are both located near an area known as the Strip District. The convention welcomes everyone who is a furry fan, and invites you to meet and socialize with other furries who share your interest in a relaxed and easygoing atmosphere.

It may not be widely known, but many Anthrocon-goers belong to the LGBTQ community, finding the experience to be conducive to fitting in and belonging where it might not be possible otherwise. Pittsburgh takes a close second to San Francisco in being one of the most welcoming and largest cities for those who identify as LQBTQ.

Pittsburgh’s annual Anthrocon will be held this year from Thursday, July 9 through Sunday, July 12, 2015. You can pre-register by June 19th for $55, which will give you access to all conference grounds and activities and lots of other goodies.

If you’re trying to figure out a way to belong, or if you’re unsure of where you identify on the sexual spectrum, attending one of these conventions might help you to find the answers you’re looking for. If nothing else, it’ll be a furry-tastic fun time.
