Origins Of The Progress Pride Flag

In 2018, designer Daniel Quasar set out to make a flag that would do justice to the tradition of the Rainbow Flag while also highlighting the unique challenges faced by underrepresented members of the LGBTQ+ community. That process yielded the Inclusive Pride Flag, often known as the Progress Pride Flag or Pride Flag 2.0.

The six-color design we know and love from the Rainbow Flag serves as the basis for the Progress Pride Flag, continuing to represent many parts of the LGBTQ+ community. The Progress Pride Flag, however, adds to this design by including symbols for other subsets of the LGBTQ+ community.

Stripes of black and brown on the flag represent the experiences and challenges of LGBTQ+ people of color. These stripes are a constant reminder of the struggle against racism and the necessity to give a voice to the often-overlooked members of our society. The transgender community is represented on the flag by the pale blue, pink, and white stripes. Transgender people's experiences and struggles are represented by the light blue and pink stripes, while the white stripe represents the non-binary community and people whose gender identities fall outside the binary spectrum.

The Meaning Behind The Progress Flag

Recognizing that the fight for equality and acceptance must address the intersecting identities and problems faced by diverse oppressed groups, the Progress Pride Flag seeks to offer a more inclusive and intersectional depiction of the LGBTQ+ community. The Progress Pride Flag is a symbol of the community's growing awareness of the importance of welcoming people of all identities and orientations. It is an expression of dedication to intersectionality and a call to action to solve the problems experienced by those on the margins.

The flag is also a symbol of forward movement. There has been a lot of success in the movement for LGBTQ+ rights, but there is still more to be done. For those in the LGBTQ+ community who experience numerous forms of discrimination, the Progress Pride Flag serves as a source of inspiration to keep fighting for equality, acceptance, and justice.
